Gleichzeitig bestehen Herausforderungen durch hohe Staatsverschuldung, strukturelle Arbeitslosigkeit – besonders unter jungen Menschen – und eine gewisse Abhängigkeit vom Reise- und Dienstleistungssektor. Die Wirtschaft wird überwiegend vom Dienstleistungsbereich getragen, insbesondere von Handel, Finanzwesen und Reiseverkehr. Ergänzend spielen Industrie, Automobilproduktion, erneuerbare Energien, Bauwesen und Landwirtschaft eine bedeutende Rolle.
